Get This Look: Fixer Upper Baker House Master Bedroom

We’re back today with another edition of “Get This Look”! Today we’re focusing on the design elements of the Fixer Upper Baker House Master Bedroom. The homeowner was a recent widow and was looking for a family home closer to her children. Joanna wanted the cute bungalow to have a classic and timeless look to match the beautiful design of the exterior of the home. The master bedroom is intended to be a serene retreat and it absolutely became just that! We’ll discuss more of the design details below.

The room itself is very tone-on-tone, which is common in Joanna’s designs. You’ll see the same colors repeated in varying textures throughout the space. When using a neutral palette, it’s much easier to incorporate graphic punches without the space feeling overwhelming or jarring. You’ll notice a wide variety of patterns throughout the space, including the wallpaper focus wall. The homeowner loves wallpaper and this was a beautiful element incorporated into the Baker House Master Bedroom. By only applying it on the back wall, it becomes a subtle accent rather than overwhelming the entire room.

To add some contrast to otherwise neutral room, Joanna added black furniture and had the doors in the space painted black, as well. Wood accents like the hardwood floors, baskets, and the woven shades add warmth and depth to the space.

We love the idea of adding mirrors to closet doors to help make the room appear bigger. Look how much extra light is reflected into the master bedroom! It almost gives the illusion of French doors leading to a patio outside!
