Hey there Remodelaholics, Scott here with Saws on Skates back to make some more sawdust with you! This time I’m sharing a project for all of the pup parents out there. We’re DIYing a dog food bowl stand perfect for small pooches!
There are a few things that make this DIY dog food bowl stand unique. First, rather than those boring stainless steel dog dishes I used small Feistaware bowls. I made the holes slightly smaller than the bowls so they could be easily lifted out.
Second, the legs just slightly angle in towards the bottom.
And third I used a router and a roundover bit to give the top a decorative edge.
This is a quick project. Probably the most time consuming thing is waiting for the primer and paint to dry!

Supplies
- 1×2 – about 36”
- 1×3 – about 48”
- Wood glue
- 1-¼” pocket screws
- (2) 14-1/4 oz Fiestaware cereal bowls (also available here)
Tools
- Tape measure
- Kreg Jig
- Drill
- Miter Saw
- Compass
- Drill bits
- Jigsaw
- Optional: Router and roundover bit
Step 1. Make the Legs.
Cut 4 pieces of 1×2 with a 3-degree angle, measure 5-½” and cut a parallel 3-degree angle. Next we need to drill some pocket holes in the legs. The pocket holes will attach the legs to the top. We want the pocket holes to face towards the inside of the dog food bowl stand. Layout a left and right side (use the sketch in Step 3 for reference), mark the locations for a pocket hole and then drill one pocket hole in one end.
Step 2. Make the Side Rails.
Cut 2 pieces of 1×2 with 3-degree angle, flip the piece, measure 3” and cut a 3-degree angle. Drill a pocket hole in each end.
Step 3. Assemble the Legs.
Apply glue to the ends of the rail, set up from the bottom of the leg ¾”, clamp and attach using 1-¼” pocket screws. Repeat for the other leg assembly.
Step 4. Attach the Back Rail.
Cut a piece of 1×2 to 12-⅛” and drill a pocket hole in each end. Apply glue to the ends of the rail, set up from the bottom of the legs ¾”, clamp and attach using 1-¼” pocket screws.
Step 5. Make the Top.
Cut 3 pieces of 1×3 to 14-⅝”. Apply glue to the edges, clamp and allow to dry. Optional: Before you cut out the areas for the bowls you can use a router and roundover bit to create a decorative edge. From the side measure in 3-11/16” and make a mark. From the front edge measure in 3-3/4” and make a mark. Set a compass to 2-11/16”, place on the mark and draw circle. Drill a few holes and use a jigsaw to cut out the circles. Be sure to leave the line so you can sand to the line. Optional: I used a drum sander mounted in my drill press to sand the circles. Center the top on the legs and attach using 1-¼” pocket screws.
Step 6. Finish the Dog Food Bowl Stand.
Fill the pocket holes, sand smooth, prime and paint.
