Hi there! Its Sara from Twelve On Main and I am so excited to be here today to talk all about Christmas! Oh my goodness, Christmas is definitely my favorite holiday, and is for more than just the gift giving. I love the memories we make spending time together as a family, making new traditions and seeing the light in my own kids eyes. If you are meeting me for the first time, HI! My name is Sara and I spend most of my days working on my own blog at Twelve On Main. I spend my time working on DIY projects, home decor ideas, and whole room remodels. I am also a huge fan of the farmhouse style, and I like to think that I have my own original spin on a rustic farmhouse style.
My style tends to be a more relaxed, and forgiving, which makes decorating so much easier! So, since Christmas is coming up, I wanted to focus on two of my favorites. Farmhouse and Christmas. We are going to talk about how to style the perfect farmhouse Christmas mantel.

Last fall I posted on Remodelaholic about how we transformed our fireplace into a farmhouse style fireplace.
If you are a seasoned farmhouse decorator or are just wanting to add a few simple farmhouse touches to your Christmas decor, these tips will be so valuable!
Easy Tips to Style the Perfect Farmhouse Christmas Mantel
How to style the perfect farmhouse Christmas mantel:
There are a few things I like to do when creating mantel decor of any kind, and I will share that with you.
- Start with a blank canvas: Start by cleaning the space, and taking everything off the mantel. This will allow you to not be distracted by anything already there.
- Gather your farmhouse Christmas decor and lay it out. Here are some things that I suggest you have in order to create a beautiful mantel.
- greenery or garland
- painting/printable/artwork/farmhouse sign
- white pitchers
- twinkle lights
- simple evergreen wreath
- nature inspired decor accessories
I really wanted to create a simple farmhouse style Christmas printable for you lovely readers. I incorporated a quote from my favorite Christmas song, O Holy Night.

I love this song and thought the simple words would resonate and look classic on the mantel. So I am offering this Oh Holy Night printable, available in white OR with an antiqued paper background.
You can also get it printed in sizes:
- 8.5 by 11
- 18 by 24
- 24 by 36
- 30 by 42
- 36 by 48
Now, you wonder how you print them at those sizes? You can have them printed at your local Staples or Office Depot in what is called an Engineering Print. They are inexpensive! When I say that, I mean that mine cost 5 dollars for 2 different 18 by 24 prints.
I simply used some spray adhesive to secure the print to a piece of painted plywood. I wanted simple! You can use them however you like.
Now…back to styling that farmhouse style mantel….
Once you have your decor items gathered up its time to decide what and where to put things.
Start by adding the largest pieces and then add to that.
I began by laying out my garland.
I chose to use real cedar branches for the mantel, since I am obsessed with the smell, and there’s just nothing better than the real thing. You can use whatever garland you have!
To create waterfall effect with the cedar branches, I took small pieces of wire and wired the branches hanging down to the pieces sitting atop the mantel.
I then added my farmhouse Christmas print to the far left, since I wanted to add a wreath too. I slightly overlapped the two. I then added some tall candlesticks to the far right, making sure to move them around until the those three articles balanced.
Its now time to add some accessories. To keep things balanced I added two of my white farmhouse pitchers, filled with more cedar branches.
The key to a farmhouse Christmas mantel is to keep it simple! I always feel like there is more I could add, but I like to stop when I get to that point because you run the risk of it looking too busy, in my opinion.
The last thing I added was my sweet driftwood deer and a set of battery powered twinkle lights. I love a little glow to the mantel. Imagine what this will look like at night.
There are a few key elements to remember when styling any mantel:
- Make sure to have at least one item as the focal point
- Use the rule of threes! I used three large items as the base of my farmhouse Christmas mantel. Items of three always balance and make more sense.
- Incorporate greenery
- Keep it simple!
- Make sure that both sides of the mantel balance
So, are you ready for Christmas? Why not try some of these tips and create your own farmhouse Christmas mantel this year!
